Today's book of stories from southern Africa focuses on animal stories, you know I like that! It's When Lion Could Fly, and Other Tales from Africa by Nick Greaves, just a click away at the Internet Archive.
The book contains 30 stories, and most of them come from southern Africa — there are Tswana, Ndebele, Batonga, San, Zulu Shona, Ngoni, and Swazi stories in this book. The author himself lives in Zimbabwe and spent his career as a geologist working in Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa; now he works as a writer and photographer. You can find out more at his website: NickGreaves.info.
One of the distinctive features of Greaves' books (this is one in a series) is that he includes information about the animals for Africa along with the stories, like this information page about the banded mongoose:
The illustrations are by Rod Clement, like this wonderful two-page spread of a pangolin:
So, especially if you are a fan of African animal stories (I am!), I'm sure you will enjoy this book:
