The first one is Tops and Bottoms, written and illustrated by Janet Stevens.
It's a famous folktale (told about other tricksters too, not just Brer Rabbit) about farming together: who gets to harvest the top of the crop, and who gets the bottoms? Brer Rabbit's dupe in this version is Brer Bear:
You might remember Janet Stevens from the illustrations she did for Eric Kimmel's Anansi books:
The next Rabbit book is Old Mister Rabbit: An African American Folk Song. The song has been updated with Rabbit not just raiding the garden, but raiding the ice cream in the freezer too!
The illustrations are by Robert Bender, and the tune is included:
And the final book for today is Brer Rabbit and the Wonderful Tar Baby by Eric Metaxas, and it's part of the "Rabbit Ears" series.
The illustrations are by Henrik Drescher. Here's Brer Fox preparing his trap for Brer Rabbit by the light of the moon:
Even if you know the Tar-Baby story by heart, this is a fun book to look at for the illustrations! We can never have too many Rabbit stories, or too much Rabbit art. Enjoy!
